Thin-skinned tangerine peels with strong citrus fragrance are carefully sun-dried in China and the ones from Xinhui District, in Guangdong Province, are particularly prized for making highly valuable (and nutritious) "Chen Pi" or Aged Tangerine Peel which is used in traditional Chinese cooking and traditional medicine.
Our Aged Peony White Tea cakes (over 7 years old) are pressed with aged Xinhui Tangerine Peels (over 6 years old) into individual 5g cakes which produce a very rich and flavorful brew with a very unique sweet aroma, reminiscent of shortbread and baked cookies. Subsequent brews yielded very pleasant fruit and floral aromas and this tea cake lent itself to many rebrews.
We encourage gongfu brewing with this tea cake to be able to enjoy the complexity of subtle aromas in the tea. Because the tea has been aged, there is very little caffeine in this tea. If you are able to enjoy the aged white peony tea cakes in the later afternoons and evenings without effect on your sleep, you will also enjoy this variation on the white peony tea cake.
