Taiwanese Dragonwell Green - 2025 Ming Qian Harvest

Our Taiwanese Dragonwell Green Tea was harvested in the Sanxia (Three Gorges) District in a garden under strict organic management.

This tea was being harvested when I visited in April 2025! This Dragonwell is fresh & fragrant, with lightly vegetal, floral, subtly nutty and citrus notes. The tea soup has a creamier taste and is a little less astringent than its sister, Taiwanese Bi Luo Chun. The presence of amino acids adds to the body and gives this tea an unparalleled lingering taste. The creamy taste is likely from the tender buds and the processing technique, which is similar to that used for Taiwan's Baozhong Oolong, giving the tea a fuller body. The harvest we purchased is prized for its refined, umami-rich flavor due to the tea plants' dormancy over the winter, which concentrates the sugars and flavor compounds.

This Taiwanese Dragonwell comes from the Qin Xin Gan Zi cultivar, which is one of the most widely planted tea cultivars in Taiwan, possibly originating from Fujian Province in China. The "Gan Zi" (meaning "little citrus/orange") suggests the subtle citrus notes in the fragrance.

The plucking standard of this tea is one bud, one leaf. The tea from this cultivar has a superior flavor profile, and is also the same cultivar used to make Oriental Beauty, Honey Black, Taiwanese Bi Luo Chun and other precious Taiwan teas.

We are only able to offer 3 sizes of this tea due to the very limited quantities we were able to purchase this year. The 150g bag has the highest discount and is vacuum sealed in the original packaging.
