Intro & How Cold Brew Iced Tea

Posted by Natalie, aka Chinatown Tea Lady on 14th Oct 2021

Hi!

I'm Natalie, aka Chinatown Tea Lady of Sun's Organic Garden, a small boutique loose leaf tea & herb shop in the heart of NYC's Chinatown.

We are excited to have just launched our new e-commerce website (www.sunsOG.com) after months of hard work thanks to great support from our friends at Send Chinatown Love (@sendchinatownlove) and Welcome to Chinatown (@welcome.to.chinatown). We are still working on improving the site and would love to hear your feedback on it!

To kick off this blog, I thought I'd re-post some step-by-step instructions on how to cold brew Iced Tea. I acknowledge we're into the fall already, here in the Northeast, but my friends in Florida and in the south could still benefit from the information posted here. I love the cold brew method for making iced tea because it's very forgiving - just set and forget. For a busy person like myself, I don't need another thing in my life that takes up too much of my attention!

I'm sorry we haven't been very active on social media this year. We have focussed a lot of attention on building up our website so we can serve our entire community both in the NY area and now nationally! We hope to be posting more updates soon, including a refresh on our branding, some new tea kits, etc!

We look forward to hearing from you both on our Instagram & FB channel (@sunsorganicgarden).

Happy sipping & enjoy the recipe below!

Natalie

Ingredients: 1 tsp loose leaf tea per 6-8oz of room temperature or cold water

Optional: fresh mint leaves, lemon slices, sweetener, etc.

1. Pour water over the dry tea. Use room temp or cold water to minimize the release of tannins (hot water draws out bitterness & astringency), resulting in a smoother taste.

2. Cover your glass and refrigerate. Steep white or green tea for 6-8 hrs; steep black or oolong tea for 8-12 hrs.

3. Once your time is up, strain the loose leaf tea out of the glass by pouring tea through a fine mesh sieve and discard the tea.

4. Serve tea as is, or with any of the optional add-ins. Tea will keep if it is well covered and refrigerated for 3-5 days.

5. Enjoy!
