Phoenix Dancong Oolong - Ginger Flower - 2023 Spring Harvest

Phoenix Dancong Oolong is a single bush tea native to Phoenix Mountain in Chaozhou, Guangdong Province. This particular Dancong is harvested at an elevation of 600m by hand on Wudong Mountain, known to produce the best dancongs due to its abundant red clay soil with its mineral content, and the presence of older tea trees.

This Ginger Flower Dancong was harvested in Spring 2023 from trees that are approximately 80 years old. The tea has been 50% oxidized and is medium roasted for a perfect balance of fragrance and flavor. The dried leaves are a very dark, almost black color, with hints of olive green. When the dried leaves are in your warm damp teapot or gaiwan they give off an aroma that is both floral and fruity with a sweet hint of ginger as the name suggests. When brewed the sweet ginger aroma will be much more dominant and pronounced. The tea liquor has a very syrupy consistency when it reaches your mouth with no astringency at all. This tea is very well-balanced in flavor - hints of ginger candy with a creamy sweetness, fall baking spices, slightly nutty, hint of stone fruits - a harmonious balance of fruity and floral notes.

I find this tea to be quite calming, a perfect tea to soothe whatever obstacles your day brings your way. The warm aroma, sweet ginger candy like flavors from your cup might be a great way to relax as you contemplate the many well balanced layers of this tea. A tea that will bring a smile to your face like a child with a piece of candy.

This tea was hand-harvested & hand-weeded. No pesticides or fertilizers were used.
